Had a look at the extractor in my 9mm Colt carbine; it actually looks a lot like it was pirated from the 1911 parts box.
It's obviously not controlled feed, as the breechface is recessed, so the extractor has to snap over the rim of the cartridge.
Is this a part that is potentially likely to break because of the frequent flex?
It just seems odd that a 1911 style extractor was used in this instance.

Never heard of one breaking. The only broken part I have heard of is the hammer pin.

It is said a ramped bolt and a standard hammer will greatly reduce the chance of breaking the hammer pin.

I've got the ramped bolt and non-notched hammer (SSA actually).
For the record, the folks at Geissele prefer their own pins to KNS.
Since the extractor is an oddball part, thought I'd inquire about it.

I've never had one break, but they are a cheap enough part and I have 2 spares in my spares box just in case...
