I just built a new M4 clone using a BCM upper and Stag lower that was bought complete at a Houston gunshow.  The rifle has been perfect, but I had been planning on putting heavier buffers in all of my 16 carbines.  So, I bought a 9mm buffer from PK (very fast shipping) because it was cheaper than other buffers and I had read several threads where members were using 9mm buffers in their 5.56 rifles.  The 9mm buffer will not fit.  It is to fat.  I suspect for it to work I will need a military tube instead of a commercial tube.  Is this correct.  Please educate me.

The 9mm buffer should fit whether you have a mil-spec or commercial tube. Is your buffer retaining pin stuck ? It may be that your buffer tube is on too tight preventing the pin from moving. Do you have a standard CAR buffer ? The diameters of both buffers should be the same.  Please post pics if the buffer diamters are of different sizes.

My bad.  I put the 9mm buffer in my superlight Bushmaster A2.  It is a tight fit on the spring, but it goes into the buffer tube normally.  I'll shoot it soon to see the difference in performance for myself.  My other lower buffer tube does have an issue.  With the 9mm buffer installed, the BCG will not engage the bolt latch.  I may have an out of spec buffer tube.  Oh well, the rifle worked fine with the regular buffer so it is not something that I will woory about now.
