I am looking to build 9mm AR but don't want, rather can't afford, to build with a colt system. I was wondering what other options are out there? Who makes the blocks and which is better; minus colt? I have heard of a system that takes Sten mags. I am thinking that that is the system that I might go with as the Sten mags are rather cheap. I just can't remember the name of the mag block. Any help appreciated.

Criuse the pistol/rimfire forum, there are 2 threads tacked to top of the page... Read them, decide what mix/match/straight system you want to run.  I personally am doing the Colt clone (custom barrel w/suppressor) and plain Uzi mags via mag block that inserts like Colt 1 piece, and retains the factory Uzi catch. No modifed mags. Also have Sten mags here, waiting on modified Colt style 2 piece block set to come out of mass production to use Sten mags, guy is behind schedule.

Then there is the "OLYMPIC" system, which you are probably thinking of. Uses Sten mags, either with the block welded to rear($65/mag), or the www.socommfg.com mag block($60) and plain inexpensive Sten mags.
