I'm looking into installing a 9mm buffer on my 5.56 AR and was wondering if there is such a thing as an extra-power or "9mm" buffer spring and, if so, would that be a useful addition to the heavy buffer?

Have any of you guys & gals tried this out, any issues?  I'd imagine the heavy buffer & extra power spring may make a gun more likely to short stroke, especially with lower power loads.  I've looked around, but couldn't find a place that sells 9mm specific springs.  Midway has some extra power springs, would these be comparable?

I saw something here a while back (search didn't find it) about using a 9mm hammer in a standard 5.56 gun, what's the deal with this, do I remember correctly that it also delays the whole unlock/eject process?  This could also increase the chance of a short-stroke with lower powered ammo correct?

Any other issues I'm missing (wouldn't be a surprise at all)

You can get the Wolff extra power recoil spring. They also sell reduced power recoil springs. I am not sure of the advantages or disadvanteges to them.

Wolff springs

BTW: they call the recoil spring, action springs. FYI

The 9mm buffer is great.  You don't need a 9mm hammer or spring.
