How is the 9mm buffer different from the buffer in my a2 stock?  Will I need a 9mm buffer if I use my a2 fixed stock?  Also, are there different weights of 9mm buffer?  If so, what are the different applications for different weights of 9mm buffer?

Thanks,
dumby

Honestly,  your time would be well spent reading through the tacked threads at the top of the forum like the FAQ's.

The short answers to your question are that 9MM buffers carbine length but, heavier than either std or "H" carbine buffers.  If you are using an A2 stock you can use a std rifle buffer.

9mm buffer is a "CAR" length buffer that weighs approx 5.6oz.
A2 rifle buffer is longer for use in std rifle tube, weighs approx 5.2oz.

No, if you have an A2 stock, run the std rifle buffer... you can add more weight by either cutting from barstock, or adding a brass dowel inside the A2 buffer body... that is what I did, my A2 buffer now weigh 7.0oz, run it with 9mm suppressed, and 223/556 uppers.

Here is an A2 style cut from stainless, it weigh 12.8oz, I us this in my M11-9 with TASK style slowfire.

Also, are there different weights of 9mm "CAR" buffer?  If so, what are the different applications for different weights of 9mm"CAR" buffer?
"CAR" buffer come in a variety of common weight, from 2.9oz (ought to be law against it) all the way to 7.9oz.   Then we have AR15 member SLASH that makes a couple heavy wieght modified "CAR" style buffer to take where OE is lacking.

I read the tacked FAQ's and didn't find this info.  Honestly, I am almost embarrassed on how much time I spend here reading.  Almost as much time as my girlfriend spends on myspace.   But lots of great info and I plan on becoming a member for all the great info/entertainment I have read here.

Thanks for the info Blitz and SBR
