Does anybody make an 9mm upper AR platform that will accept a Glock or any other AR magazine. I don't want to use the drop in magazine block. I read somewhere awhile back that you may need to do make a minor alternation to the bolt.

Yes, there are Glock mag lowers.

I'm not aware of anyone who makes an AR lower which will accept Colt/Uzi-style 9mm mags w/o an adapter (mag block); maybe someone does these days, but I'm not aware of them.  The mag block is not a big deal and it lets you convert (back) to 5.56 (or ?) if you'd like.

As for the bolt carrier, it depends.  There are two routes:  9mm hammer or standard AR hammer.  If you use a 9mm hammer you can run a normal 9mm bolt/carrier.

Since the 9mm (blowback) is much harder on the FCG components than is 5.56, if you run a standard AR hammer most people have their (9mm) bolt carrier ramped; they shave the back end of the lower part of the carrier at an angle so that it doesn't slam into the hammer quite as hard (as an unramped carrier would).

The question you have to answer for yourself is do you want a 9mm only gun, or do you think you will want to use a different upper on the said lower from time to time.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably go the Glock mag route (had they existed at the time) since, if you were carrying a Glock, you would have cross compatible mags.

Yes, there are several options: QC10, Black Creek Precision, PSA, etc.

OP: lots of good info here on 9mm AR builds:  http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_3/15_Rimfire_and_Pistol_Calibers.html

My QC 10 Colt 9mm lower should be coming in today. I'm pretty excited. This will be my first build and my first pistol caliber AR.

I keep seeing these ar9's on here, I really want one for a plinker and hd gun. I'm off to hunt for a glock mag lower now, thanks y'all.

I'm waiting for QC10 to bring out their 9mm lower that uses HK MP5 magazines.

I'm working on an AR 9 suppressed SBR build and I chose to get a dedicated colt/uzi style lower from Black Creek Precision:

http://blackcreekprecision.com/parts-accessories/lower-receivers.html

I got the EF9.  They have some EF9 seconds right now that I'd consider buying.

In hindsight, because I SBR'd this lower, I think I might have been better off getting a standard lower and using a magblock.  That way, if I ever wanted to have a different caliber SBR (300 BLK) I could have used this lower.  The reason I didn't was two fold:

1) vanity, I didn't like the way the big magblock with narrow 9mm colt magazine looked
2) Everything I read said that once you have a suppressed 9mm AR you are going to love it, so I don't think I'll be parting it out to build other guns.  Especially since the tax stamps and suppressor alone has cost $1K or so.
