All,
on a dedicated 9mm upper, I assume there is no point to a gas tube?

Correct No point at all.

Well, you can use a stub of a tube in the FSB to keep the handguard from spinning around.

Or a piece of brass rod.  The point is that while you don't need a gas tube, the tube does serve a purpose other than transporting gas to the bolt carrier.  While I haven't had a problem with my 9mm upper, if the handguards seemed even a little loose, I'd run to the hobby shop and buy brass rod pretty much right away.

What a rough crowd.

Of course the gas tube has no function in a 9mm carbine, they work by blowback.

I was just saying if a guy had a clogged or bent gas tube laying around, you could use the front 2" or so to keep the handguard from spinning.
