| Who currently makes a correct A1 lower? I have not seen anyone making them. I know the A2 with the mag button fence etc is a "better" lower. However it looks kind of out of place with the new or near new A1 uppers that are fairly common now that they are being surplused off. Looks like it would be easier to make A1 lowers than A2 style ones. Any thoughts on this? |

American Spirit Arms is building some. They should be ready in about a month. Click Here Hope this helps. Couch-Commando

A month?! That's what he's been saying for, what, 2 months now! I'm starting to have second thoughts on if they'll ever be available. |
First of all, the A1 lower HAS a mag button fence. What it doesn't have is the reinforced rear ring and rounded off underside of the front lug of the A2 configuration. The early Air Force M16s and Army XM16s were the pieces with the same configuration plus the smooth area around the mag release. So far as I know, the proposed American Spirit lowers will be the A1 configuration, w/the mag fence. They have talked about doing an M16/XM16 type in the future, but since they haven't gotten the first issue A1 types out yet, I'm not holding my breath. ![]() My solution for the A1 type was to "build" my own, by reshaping a current issue Rock River piece to the early profile. Sorry I can't post a pic, since I have no equipment to do so, but the job came out well. I have a DPMS lower set aside for doing an M16 clone, but since the A1 conversion took two weeks of hand filing and polishing, I'm not anxious to go through the ordeal again and keep hoping the American Spirit piece will actually become real. |
