| HELP Question , I have a A1 603 upper with flash on the carry Handel , no colt proof marks. It has a single hole drilled in the front for the gas tube to slip through just a bit larger than the gas tube, not the usual four holes that makes a cross for the gas tube to slip though. can anyone tell me if this might be a GM upper. I have two H&R uppers and they are the same type flash but the H&Rs have the cross drilling same as a colt. |
| Barry, are the lugs black or grey? Just trying to date. Is the hole anodized same as upper or does it look machined at a later date. What color is it anodized. All my uppers have the cross but I know I don't have a GM and if I ever did it's long gone. Way back when most only cared about price before retroland. Thinking later production upper possibly 9mm converted but I sometimes like to be wrong just to keep on my toes and the little gears spinning. Most of mine sure fit kinda snug on the gas tube. Was it complete? Any markings on the teardrop assist? What port door? |

Dave;
Everything is like a colt the lugs look to be Black I bought this from M1 sniper a couple years ago. It has a A1 port door and is now in XM gray or close to it. It does not have the H&R makings on the FWD assist but looks to Black. I will try and get some pics up Barry |
| I've had re-furbished FA's that were died black and grey at inside of hump when removed. Does it have a circle cast in the teardrop part? The few uppers I have laying around measure 5/16" end to end on the cross spacing. Is the hole possibly 5/16" or smaller. Someone could have reamed out the hole for many different reasons. Shame it's been modded. Wondering if tube would stay centered and not get boogered by BCG when firing. Unfortunately I robbed all my Colt Teardrop FA's when I sold those uppers and replaced mine with NJ DPMS and most my retro's are 604 with no assist's anyway. Wondering if Rob would remember? |
| Sure looks like a H&R or possibly GM that someone modded. Hole looks a little off center to me in pic. What's it measure roughly? Arrow sure looks H&R. Don't see enough GM's to have a clue on arrow realistically although besides drinking cool aid they sure intrigue me. Site wheels looks like what I would call correct for dateline. |

I have had a barrel on this upper and evrything lines up correct and works good . No problems there
Sweet. Never had a problem myself and gas tubes are cheap but thought crosses my mind when I see them like that. Love the Sharpie and nylon cleaning brush. Gotta keep everything looking correct and nice and clean. Got a nylon brush in my bathroom and used my new toothbrush to clean parts the other night and was like WTF! Wake up dumba##. Ha! Ha! |
| Is it 5/16" bigger or smaller? Any signs of old cross marks? Magnifier and bright light possibly. Is a cool piece. Those black and non the rebated front lug would sure put it right in the middle of the H&R and GM contracts and not post contract era all grey. Can see the flashing front and back. Sure is in decent shape. Has it been re-finished? Black in the hole wipe off with CLP and a little scrub.? |
| I have another H&R I bought from brick it was barreled when I bought it and it is a round forge with the correct FWD with the circle and a 4 inside of it , also has the correct Frt site with the proper forge markings. The gas tube mic at .0075. That is a nice retro Harley nice work on the tank looks as if you polish it a lot with that super E sticking out there.or is that a flat slide makuni? and nice dog bone risers |

Not mine Barry, it is an Indian Larry build bike in memory of Ed Roth. Accidently put your photo's in my retro bike pic collection folder. Do have probably the last photo's taken of the actual bike he was killed on stunt riding and the photo's are mine not copies. Had to post as it was hiding next to your upper photo's. Dual Mukini's on a pan copy rocker box Shovel I believe less than 90in. and real ight I believe. Buddy bought a Superflow dyno last week and wants me to help him set it up. Sounds like free dyno time. Woo Hoo! Still trying to get in the 10 sec club with my H-D and getting pretty close. Guessing you haven't used the H&R stock yet. I picked up another for one of my builds but it's collecting dust by the fireplace. Need to put the NOS stashed swivel on it. Gonna play with a couple AR carbines if the weather holds. |

That is really cool looking. The other interesting thing about this upper is the non tapered front lug and the way the rear lug is tapered. Round forge contours look the same as a "CH" forge colt upper receiver.

Yours looks like my work bench or PC desk retro cloned. I'm leaning to arsenal refinished H&R personally with a hole drilling until wpnsMan tells me it's a GM. You could remove the FA and see if it is two toned which most my arsenal refinished have been. Most the H&R' FA's have a number on them in the circle. Black where visible but grey where not. Put a ruler on the hole for diameter. Should be around 5/16". The .0085 mic is throwing me I'm thinking it should mic .03125 or close. Definately round forging but thought many of the H&R's and GM's had squareish forging? |
| the reason I am trying to ID this upper is I what to list it on EE and would like to know what it was. The port door rod is definitely Black with signs of wear near the slip ring. forward of the C clip. It also has small part of bottom of the front lug machined flat. I put it next to a colt XM upper and it is a darker gray than colt. |
