Sure.  Rifle buffers are all the same weight unless you use a specialized lighter one.

If you use a rifle tube, you have to use a rifle buffer and spring.

To clarify, heavy and carbine buffers (and all the other weights available) are for carbine tubes.

The rifle tube requires a rifle spring and a rifle buffer.  Check midway usa, brownells, etc.

I seem to recall also that someone makes a spacer that can be slipped into the tube first, which then allows the use of a regular carbine spring and buffers.  Just an option.

RRA does.
But that really to use the heavier 9mm buffer in a rifle stock.
If you are shooting 5.56 or any rifle caliber with an A2 stock, use the proper buffer and spring.
Buffers and springs are cheap and should come with the stock anyway.

The 9mm buffer is only slightly heavier than a standard rifle buffer, and the 9mm buffer is a good choice for those that need to slow cycling down a bit.

But in a rifle stock tube it's uneccessary since, as you said, they're the same weight.

Excellent point, I was thinking that but I didn't manage to get it typed out

If you use a 9mm buffer you can keep the length shorter.
