I have been contemplating putting together an A2 with a spare lower I have. So far, I've gotten the proper buttstock (from the EE) for the rifle. Now I just need to assemble the parts for the upper.
I have a question, is it worth putting one together myself with parts that I can probably get in a short time, or do I order an A2 upper that will take between four and six weeks to be delivered. I have been watching the EE to see if I can catch an A2 upper, but I have not found one as yet. I am not sure that price for either option is that much different. I just wanted to get a consensus of what you guys are thinking. Of course, finger pointing, derisive comments, and complaints are appreciated. Ron ...Semper Fidelis... |

I have a gun show coming up towards the end of the month, so hopefully I will either find one on the EE or at the show. I am hoping for a genuine Colt M16 upper, but since it is kind of a build made from parts laying around, I will take what I can get.
Thanks for all the help. Ron ...Semper Fidelis... |

Think I'd build a Colt or FN clone using your lower. The Sarcoinc Colt A-2 kits and on special this month for $425 according to my SGN ad. To be totally correct you would have to sell the C marked carrier which has been machined to AR-15 style (still very functional) and the new 1-9 twist Doublestar barrel and buy a Colt barrel. So I'd say if you have a stripped lower you could easily build one for less than $600. Maybe $500 if you played your cards right. Sell the sarco carrier for $50-55 shipped. Buy an excellent condition Colt M-16 carrier from Apexgunparts for $70. Sell the Doublestar brand new barrel for $170 or even more shipped and easily buy an excellent Colt or FN A-2 for $200 shipped. Then except for lower receiver you would have a complete Colt parts A-2 clone or real close with a FN barrel. Probably have to modify (neuter) or swap or sell some FCG parts just to be safe since they are FA parts. The Bushmaster A-2 profile, 1-7 twist barrels at $205 are gtg and I have used a several of them on builds for myself and others with good results. Good luck.
Colt and FN M-16 uppers are always on the EE if not looking for one. |
