I had an A2 Colt several years ago that had a steel buttplate and door.

A few months ago I picked up a A2 stock at a gunshow and while it seems decent in every other way, it has a black plastic buttplate and steel trap door.

Which is correct and where do I get a steel version besides big C?

I might want to smash a bug or something and would hate to scratch up the plastic plate.AL

Are you sure about the buttplate?  Been owning and shooting M16s and ARs for over 25 years, and have never seen a steel buttplate.

I just have a grey Parkerized metal buttplate pictured in my head.

The only metal buttplates I've seen have been on Colt stocks.  I've by no means seen everything, though.
