Now that I have a 20" A2 to go with the C.A.R. 15, I'm think strongly about putting a scope on the 20"....

What I want to know is how dose mounting the scope to the carring handle affect the impact point. The reason I'm concerened about this is that it seems that having the optic so far off the bore line would somehow affect it.

How dose that affect POI.

And.

Is there a good carring handle mount that will be easy to remove and hold POI when reatached?

Your the AR-15 guys, school me.

I have a Colt A2 that I have tried to zero for the longest time. I'd like some feedback also on the same topic also.

Thanks

Ya know s, there's an AR15 picture thread "tacked" to the top of this forum.....

You'll have to scroll through to page 5 before you'll find this A2 scope set-up (actually it might be an A1, but the point is the same):

The reason is that even with this scope (which looks funky to me) the scope sets too high for most folks to get the proper consistent "cheek-weld", (even more so w/ the collapsible stock).

Your option is a Delta cheek-piece or similar product, which normally renders the factory iron sights un-usable until the accessory is removed.....

THIS IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOLKS (intended to scope thier AR15s/M16s) CHOOSE FLAT-TOPS.

It ain't how it affect your POI, it's your ability to be consistent when resting your cheek on the stock.

IF this is your choice, and ya ain't gonna change it, get yourself a "cheek-piece" add-on accessory.... you'll be a much more consistent shooter with one, group wise.

Alot of people will say that you can't be accurate with a scope on top of a carry handle but I beg to differ. I have a 3.5-10x50 simmons mounted on top of my a1 and have found it very accurate. I consistantly shoot sub moa at 100 and can hit a 4inch steel plate at 350 yards 4 out of 5 shots. with a good mount the scope should be less than an inch above the sight. For me cheek weld is not a problem with my scope. The cheek piece is probably a good thing to have although I haven't tried it yet. The key is good optics and a good mount. I had a ncstar piece of crap 3-9x44 and couldn't shoot 2 inches at 100 yards the day I put the simmons my groups shrunk drasticly and keep getting better.

Your scope should zero as easily as it would on a flattop.  The only "problem" you will encounter is that any ballistics charts you find will not come close to matching what you will see with your rifle and to me that is not really a problem.  Zero the scope for the yardage you will be using it at and make your own chart as you shoot from other distances.

I zeroed a scope for my A2 and used it occasionally.  After repeated removal and remounting it returned to zero perfectly.  I used an ARMS #2 (extended) because it was on an AR10.  No cheek piece - didn't seem to need one YMMV.
