I've got a Colt 6551 A2 Gov Model.  I would like to get into Coyote hunting and my eye sight is going.  I do pretty good to hit what I can see with iron sights.  I have a scope mounted that fits in the carrying handle groove but I'm needing a higher comb for the stock to get a cheek weld.

What options do I have you might recommend.  I have been kicking around the idea of buying a A3 upper or new stock.  The rifle is very accurate and I'm not sure I want to mess with uppers as I have a good thing going.

I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money about $100 is the budget.  I may just go buy a new gun with my tax return.  I did look at the sand bag wrapped things for the stock and not so sure i'm sold on them.

Anyone with a similar problem have a solution?

Thanks,

Ideally, a flat top is better. If your budget won't allow it at this time don't worry, a carry handle mounted optic isn't as bad as folks on this board will lead you to believe. I have both, and the flat top is better for a lower cheek weld, but I ran an old scope on top of my 20" A2 Bushmaster before the A3 uppers started hitting the market. The only down side is the "chin" weld and height over bore issues at close range. For plinking or hunting you'll be just fine. For what it's worth I've seen some high speed/ low drag types mount optics on a carry handle so they could shoot with gas masks on.

There is a "bolt-on" comb for A2 stocks that allows for proper eye reliefe with carry handle mounted optics.
