Does the AAC muzzle brake have a flange that covers a portion of the barrel like the vortex flash hider does?

No, the brake is flat across the back:

No problem, and the brake-out is the same way:

I thought the newer ones had wrench flats on the rear?

Going to look in the safe.

You might be right. A further search shows some brakeouts do indeed have the flats on the rear like the blackout.

OP, what are you planning on doing that the flat back makes a difference?

Hide a boo boo  I have a vortex flash hider which has the "shroud" that extends over a portion of the barrel.  When I was installing it I didn't realize the diameter of my barrel was slightly larger than the recess in the Vortex and it shaved about 1/8" of the finish off the end of the barrel as I tightened it.  No big deal but I was hoping the AAC muzzle devices were made similar and would hide the ugly.  Haven't decided what can I'm getting but have been looking hard at AAC.
