Stag stripped lower receiver and CMT LPK. Followed FALARAK's instructions with the exception of installing the trigger guard first, since it seems that's about the only operation that can ruin the lower. I used his "press" method with the vise grips wrapped in duct tape. An excellent method, small turns allowed steady smooth progess without having to whack on the receiver. It worked so well that I used the same method on the bolt catch roll pin too. I carefully started both pins with Brownells 3/4' brass/plastic hammer, which again was handy tapping the hammer pin home using the plastic end. Used grease on all these holes too. Pivot pin detent was as pesky as most experience. I have the installation tool and it still was difficult. Another good reason for a plastic bag: without it, the pin shot off and was stopped only by the lens on my glasses. Into the plastic bag it went, tool or no tool. Pistol grip was a pain getting the screw in, confirming why I like the hex screw over the slotted variety. Function check passed with flying colors. Have to wait for my CMT buffer tube to arrive before putting in the rear takedown pin/spring/detent and the buffer detent and spring; but I have done that work before on other weapons. No marks on the receiver!!! Highly recommend getting the magblock vice insert so that you can have both hands free for installing trigger pin and especially the hammer pin and starting the bolt catch roll pin. Next mission: Installing a Del-ton 16' mid-length barrel to a CMT upper receiver assembly. Barrel shipped out today from JSE. |
