Im thinking of getting an ACE stock like what is advertised on bushmasters website.
I do not want a shorty version.
I have an M4 A3.
Which type would I want?
The one that says Ace Skeleton Stock Kit, or the one that says Ace Skeleton Stock for the AR Family???
Also, is there any other source that sells these for cheaper, are they hard to put on and does anybody experiance with these, (opinions please.)

Ok now, Im sorta liking the looks of the ACE M4 SOCOM stock.
Anyone have any experiance with one of these?
Will I have to purchase any addditional items, or just the stock to fit on my rifle?
Thanks

I have a regular length Ace skeleton stock that does the job for me.

IIRC, the stock "kit" is for switching over from a collapsible over to the Ace stock, and includes the buffer tube, buffer, and spring; the "stock" is just that--the stock, plus the foam tube & buttplate. If you know which way a wrench tightens and loosens, you can install any stock on any AR. (actually, if you know your right from your left, and "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey", you can replace just about anything on an AR; they really are that easy to work on) As far as the SOCOM stock...I have no personal experience with those, but I have read from a lot of members who have them, and they nearly all (99% or so) report that they lock up very solidly in position, and are very robust in construction. I believe the SOCOM comes with everything needed. The Ace stocks I have personally seen myself were all extremely well made.

I think Im really leaning towards the M4 socom stock.
Just love the looks of it, and like what Im reading about it.
So it comes with everything I need to put on my bushie M4?
Is there any special tools recommended to remove the old and put on the new?
Thanks again.

Thanks for the link,
So will I need with the buffer and spring, or without?

While I don't know what's requ9ired to install the SOCOM stock, all it takes to remove an A1/2 stock is a flat-head scewdriver and a 5/8ths wrench.

*be careful when unscrewing the buffer tube, or the buffer retainer will launch itself out of it's hole like an ICBM leaving the pad...usually heading straight for any HVAC vents in the vicinity--one way to prevent this is to simply keep the upper receiver closed on the lower while you do this, or put a strip of tape over the retainer*

Right on, the cheaper the better,
I take it my buffer and spring are the same size as needed.
Was it difficult installing?
Also I see where "del ton" has a multi tool.
Will this help with the installation, or should I order from the bushie website?

Thanks for all the help!

I noticed the tool on the bushie site was only $5.95, so I may just go with that instead.
Not really sure I can justify spending the extra cash.
As far as the buffer and spring go, would the ones that came with my bushie be better to keep, or the ones I can order with the stock?
Something I also am thinking about down the road is spare parts, and maybe enough to put another rifle together.
Is the extra $11 a fair price for the these items?
I can always put them with all my other spare parts.

That is just one sweet looking stock.
How long to install?
1/13/2005 8:24:51 PM EDT
[#26]
its easy to install. unscrew your current stock. put buffer and spring in ace tube. screw in ace stock over detent. tighten bolt with included allen wrench. the only tricky part is keeping the bufer behind the detent while screwing the tube up over the lip of the detent. and keeping the little spring on the take down pin.

heres a  link that will  give you the jist

scroll down untill you see the stock.

heres a pic of my socom stock

heres one with the skeleton stock on it

the skeleton is nice and light. the m4 is built like a tank! one complaint about it though, the button you depress to collapse or lengthen it sometimes spin inside its hole and lock up the stock. but other than that no problems with either

While installing it, the easiest way to slide the foam over the buffer tube is to get the foam nice and wet.

I just took my ACE stock off and I poured about a cup of not-quite hot water over the foam and you wouldn't believe how easily it slid off the buffer tube.  It was completely dry within 5 minutes, too.

One M4 SOCOM stock on the way. (along with the stock removing tool from BM)
Ordered the stock through del-ton.
Ive seen some pics with the rubber butt pad and some without.
I believe there are 2 different sizes.
I didnt see where I can specify when ordering, anybody know which one (if any) del ton ships out with theyre orders?
Man,,, these stocks look sweeeeeeeeeeet, cant wait to get mine on.

Just email Del-Ton to make sure, but I think they ship with the 1/2" buttpad standard. That's how I got mine, anyway.

You'll love the ACE once it's installed. Don't go breaking down any doors, though...

Do you guys think that I can use Ace's ultra light entry stock on a SBR'd carbon 15 pistol?  I'm still waiting on the approved paperwork so for now the question is purely academic.  The pistol doesn't have any retention apparatus for the buffer tube it comes with.  The thing just screws into the threads and that's it.  There is a drop in spring guide for use with the regular AR buffer tubes/ carbon 15 spring and buffer.  If I get that Ace stock kit, can I just screw it into the threads and have it stay oriented properly or do I need to explore another option or accessory to keep the buttstock vertical?
