Anybody tried out the ACOG look alikes from Florida Gun Works. I know FGW's isn't the most trusted retailer around, but I'm curious about there scopes. The add says no tritium but has the same reticle. Ok I've asked and now I'm heading for my bunker.

Airsoft replica.  Don't be surprised if it breaks quickly after a few hundred rounds or the first light drop and I'm sure the optics are "exceptional".  If it doesn't, good for you.

You know,  I wouldn't dream of putting one of these on a .223,   but  it might be right at home on a .22lr conversion kit AR,  or a 10/22 with folding stock...

Great for the plinking range I bet, as long as you don't give it too much recoil to deal with.

Try it before you criticize it. This debate over cheap optics will never stop.... read this about my experience with lower price optics....I have both an Aimpoint and a Tacpoint and other than a few quality control issues I am hard pressed to find the difference between the two. I was at one of the last classes at Thunder Ranch and I took my Tac because I didn't want to screw up my Aimpoint. This thing got banged around more than my last girlfriend and still held zero, other expensive optics may have failed with the abuse I put it through. I know Thunder isn't combat but it is a close 3rd. I know alot of Ar'rs don't like cheap (inexpensive) optics because of pride, showmanship and penis length, but I stand behind this little red dot, in fact it has found it's home on my M4gery. I do have a barely used Aimpoint for sale........just kidding!.

I am rather surprised by this statement. A carbine course is a good opportunity for civilians to test their gear. If anything, it seems like students would want to bring the best stuff they have to prevent failures that might slow down the class or hinder the learning process.

This photo was from an airsoft forum in the Phillipines.    The ingenius megaforce operator cut out a circle from the honeycomb cover of a stereo speaker, then glued it in front of the "acog" (fake cog) lens to simulate a Tenebraex KillFlash.   Other members were asking, "What kind of glue did you use???"   No shit.

That's something I really would like to know! They are selling replicas not only of Acogs but Aimpoints, Elcans, US optics, Leupolds... you name it! and it doesn't stop there, they are selling accesories... you can even find copies of Kinghts R.A.S. II ! I really would like to know if companies like A.R.M.S or Trijicon don't care about their designed being completely stolen by this companies.

I belive that as a consumer we most be more responsible and stop buying this replicas the only thing we are acomplishing is to send 6 feet under all the honest, hard working companies that have in the first place developed those products. Let's remember most of these companies are located here in the U.S. and give jobs to American Families!!!

Maybe because they make their money off military contracts these days and they arent stupid enough to think that TOYS are any kind of competition for that.

And I believe Aimpoint did take notice of the Tacpoint, and thats why it has the nifty new "Blue Angels" markings on it.

This is my problem with the whole issue.  The Tacpoint may be fine but I will never give my money to a company that reverse engineers someone elses product than undercuts them with cheap asian labor.  Whats worse is they don't just steal the idea or technology they have to even make it look the same to intetionally fool consumers if possible.  Look, its a fact, the west cannot compete in terms of pure cost with asia, so its innovation we count on.  The chinese companies doing this shit are the scum of the Earth and we are cutting our own damn throats.  Good thing the tacpoint is so cheap because thats all we can afford working at Walmart.

Obviously from your statement you are a cheap gypsy mindreader because your interpetation of my statement couldn't be farther from the truth. Unlike yourself I don't lurk here every waking moment, waiting for the moment to call somebody a troll. I have looked at enough over here to know that no matter what is asked, the armchair bandits will have to put in their two cents worth without any kind of first hand experience to back up their witty quips. My reference to heading to my bunker is because of people like you and their frustrated, annoyed and childish responses. Any question asked over here can't be answered in simple civilized matter. Instead your bombarded by a bunch of snotty nosed kids and hope as you sort through the reponses from the safety of your bunker that someone can give you a straight answer not based on speculation and the price of a product. If it is an airsoft product then fine thats all I needed to know. When I get the time like you to spend every waking moment waiting for the next topic to come up, hopefully all of my questions will be answered before I ask and I can then be as informed as yourself. Hopefully I will even be able to read minds and interpret what other people post so I too can join your crusade for the next troll.

The bottom line is that people here get pissed off because some claim that their [insert airsoft replica here] can withstand the abuse of [insert real optic here] and that is just not true.  They may hold up to occasional range use, but it has been proven over and over that cheap optics cannot withstand daily use and abuse.

If you are a plinker, get what you want, I and most of us here really don't care.  Just don't claim that is as good as/can take as much abuse as the real deal.  You aren't fooling anybody, except yourself.

"first off it was not a competition" - see red highlighted item above in my quote of myself.

Now I'm an idiot.  Hmm, maybe - I've certainly proven that a couple times in my life, but I'm not the one talking about poking a guy in the ass either........................................

Anybody else who attends carbine classes/training/competitions seen a Tacpoint on a rifle?  I'm honestly curious if it happens and if so, what is the frequency?  I'd never do it in fear of holding up the class if it were to go down.

I'm thinking this is some teen getting his kicks being macho on the internet or some troll getting his rocks off, either way nothing productive is being accomplished here.

Am I right in gathering the threads we have on these inferior optics, that more emphasis is placed on the Copy/ Replicating with lower quality more than the sights themselves?

I remember lots of thread on low quality sights(BSA, Leaper, NC Star) that never lead to long winding discussions as heated as these, So why not just state it the way it is. Low priced copies are not to be confused with the real deal, and be done with it?

Actually your right.  My statement was way too strong.  I should never say never.  I should say I make an attempt to avoid giving money to such companies when possible.  Obviously it is about impossible to avoid all such examples.  I do have an IBM computer, and I was downsized from IBM .  I guess there are some flagrent abuses and the Tacpoint to me seems to be a good example of this.

This was JUST MY EXPERIENCE, some "others" like to classify members who use cheaper optics as uneducated, inexperienced boobs. Well I have served in 2 combat deployments; Ops Just Cause & Desert Storm, right now I wish I could be right next to my stepfather who is currently in Iraq. I think between the 2 of us we have enough combat experience to put the naysayer's to shame. I hate when someone legitimately posts a question and get uneducated and inflammatory remarks. Once again I stated my opinion, agree or disagree I don't care....contribute to the question or your experience and leave to rest of the B.S out. I have learned from this experience and I will not let them anger me in the future. I will leave my smart ass comments out in the future, it's beneath me. Wow, that went from an interesting topic to name calling childish behavior in no time.

Everyone has a good point regarding this topic. I have my own oppinion and you may agree or you may not. (btw, Im nobody so consider that)

These companies have all sunk money and time into engineering these products. It is only fair that they recover their R&D funding. They also develop primarily for the military market not the private sector. The military buys in bulk after negotiating a price. These companies are smart enough to introduce the product to the military first at inflated prices knowing that if they get the contract, the GSA will ask for a better price in quantity.

Now, they cant very well sell to the civi market for less that the Govt. is paying. That might piss someone off at GSA. So...we are stuck paying a premium for a product that they could comfortably sell for 30% less money if they wanted to.

I dont feel sorry for these companies when Airsoft knocks off their stuff. The majority of people who buy the Airsoft stuff do so....FOR THE GAME OF AIRSOFT. Their are others that simply wont pay the high prices of the genuine item anyway so they arent "lost customers" either. Airsoft is a different market than the military or even the civi firearms owner. They really are not a threat at all. Quality is quality. The problem comes up when U.S. companies try and sell the Airsoft stuff as first quality military spec items. These U.S. companies that do so without informing their customers that its made in Asia as a knock-off are liars and theives plain and simple.

Some of you who paid top dollar for the real deal may not like to see someone running around laughing that they have the "same thing" for $300 dollars less but guess what? ITS NOT THE SAME THING, so go put a band-aide on your little bruised ego.

Im not an operator and dont plan to become one any time soon so my $35 BSA Red Dot I bought at Wal Mart works just fine on top of my FAL carbine. The bullets go where the dot is consistantly and If I accidently smash it into the side of my A.P.C. / S.U.V. while on "manuvers", im not out a whole lot of money.

Thanks for your time, Vulcan762

Is this a threat?  Making threats is not a good way to encourage some one to let a dispute die.  How about just letting it go?
