Can anyone tell me about this combo? |

Trijicon now offers the TA31DOC, developed to meet the SOPMOD II requirement. It has a 3.5MOA LE/Mil Docter parked on top of a TA31 variant that has an amber illuminated crosshair (simialr to the NSN but with FO). I don't like the reticule myself and feel that they would be better served with a Red Chevron. The piggy back arrangment works very well indeed. You run the Docter with a raised chainweld. This is both comfortable and provides outstanding SA as would don't have the ACOG body in the way. When you want to engage a target further out, you just go to a normal cheekweld and the Docter dot just drops out of view and you're running pure ACOG. I found it faster than a Specter DR and you don't have to move your hands from the firing position as for the Specter or other variables. I'm partial to a TA11 with this set up since it doesn;t ahve the short eye relief of the TA31. Simon |
A: BAC is no replacement for a real dot sight and BAC does not work in all lighting conditions. Its not odd at all. BAC has a POI differnt than the POA, does nto work indoors with a flashlight, etc. B: You dont need a cheekweld to use the red dot on top of the ACOG. It has reduced parallax like most all red dots. |
What I meant was that it's a bit odd inasmuch as it's an admission by Trijicon that the BAC doesn't work in all situations, and isn't a one size fits all solution, though they tend to promote it as such. I know you don't need a cheek weld to use a red dot or reflex sight, but I was referring to was that the red dot sight might tend to be too high to comfotably use, given how the shooter is going to tend to consistently position their head, and that it might be akward for many shooters to have to make fundamental alterations in how they position their head on a the weapon depending which sight they are going to use. I never said it wasn't an intriging setup, just that it also may not be the perfect one size fits all solution for everyone. If they offered the DoctorOptic on the TA11, I might have gotten it myself. |
