Out of the compact ACOGs, this one seems to be the most attractive one.

I like the reticle choice, green crosshair. The FOV is about the same as with TA11.

TA45 is out because there is no green option for anything, incredibly.

TA44 is questionable because not sure the dot is conducive to most accuracy, the outer ring is a little confusing, maybe.  It has to be fastest but less accuracy.  Closest thing to a RDS that the ACOG line has.

I came to the exact same conclusion and almost ordered one. But after much consideration I decided I'm done with fiber optic/ tritium ACOGs due to reticle wash out. I'm trying a Browe and I hope to be able to put up a full review in a few weeks.

I had a TA47 for about a year. Very nice, as all ACOGs are IMO. I initially picked it up for a 11.5" upper. Wanted something with more magnification than 1.5x (because I figured that was basically just a red dot), but I was too anal to be able to accept a 3x and have the BDC be off.

I did like the TA47. But, I found the 2x to be enough too much magnification to really be able to use it with close to the speed of a red dot (the 1.5x seems to work much better in this role). But it wasn't really enough magnification for me to prefer it over the 3x. So, I ultimately wound up with a TA33 on my 11.5" and a TA44 on my 10.5". Sold my TA47. I'm sure it can fill a role for others and it's a good optic, it just didn't fill a role that I needed.

The 47 suffers from middle child syndrome, it's eclipsed on the speed end by the lower mag TA-44, and eclipsed on the precision end by the higher mag TA-33. Kind of like the market share of the Glock 26 tends to get eaten up by the 43 and 19 on either side of it.

In its own right, the 47 is a great optic.

I generally prefer TA11 ACOGs as an all-around ACOG  --- never had any washout issues.  With green reticles anyway. They got that bright neon green glow in all conditions. Red is much dimmer, maybe that's part of the problem.

Now switching to a PCC and TA11, as good as it is, just doesn't work with PCC too well.  It can, but I don't need the ranging reticle or the crosshair or the weight, nor can I use 3.5x.

The choice is really between TA44, which is always tempting, and TA47.  I like the green crosshair of the TA47.

I see your point.  I currently run TA11J on a PCC -  which actually works better than I thought, so moving to a TA47 would be a great upgrade, or a downgrade if you will. It's a really nice optic, it's just huge.

The FOV is 5.6 vs 5.5 degrees, the ER is the same. It's like TA11 at slightly more than half the power and less than half the weight and the bulk.

TA44 has huge FOV but not sure how well it would work at 100m.  I want both precision and speed.   I am not sure I need the FOV to be 7.4 degrees.  Limited reticle choice.

I tried many ACOGs and decided that I like the crosshair reticle the most, while the donut, the horseshoe are temping and are certainly very fast.  The chevron, the triangle are out for me.

TA47 seems the least popular ACOG mentioned. It's either 3.5x or 4x ones or the 1.5 models.

I have the green crosshair TA47, it's been my main optic for awhile now.

It has it's pros and cons but overall I really like it.

pros:
lightweight
durable and reliable
simple, no adjustments and no batteries, always on and ready
easy and quick pickup of reticle
clear and crisp glass, long eye relief and comfortable sight picture

cons:
expensive
as posted above, little slower than 1x red dot and not as useful as 3x or higher
reticle illumination isn't always at an optimal brightness
crosshair obscures the target when you're just hitting paper at 100yd and up. bigger stuff and it wouldn't matter.

How is the crosshair in terms of MOA? Meaning fraction of MOA.
