I'm looking at purchasing a ACOG TA31.  What are the thoughts on the RMR combos . To me it looks like it makes the RMR very high. What about on a 45 degree mount ? Or Not at all ?

I agree with you.  that's a very high mount for any optic.  I dig 45 offset sights/optics as they're very easy to use.

I love it. I tried the offset rmr deal on my ta01 and its a bit hard to twist it.

But I then got the ta 31ecos model and love it. 99% of the time you don't use it even close shots with the BAC but when you do have to use the rmr it works well enough. Obviously the closer something is the more offset you have but for the most part that doesn't matter. I also love the buis on it. Trijicon for whatever reason doesn't sell the offset buis so basically you can only get it with he rmr combo models.

Useless.

Transitioning from cheek weld to chin weld and messing with your muscle memory is ridiculous.

I bought an ECOS because I got a good deal on it and wanted an RMR for a PDW build.

Immediately removed the RMR and mounted it on another rifle.

With the BAC,  it's easier to transition to using the reticule as a dot with both eyes open than it is to move your head.

JMHO, YMMV, BBQ.

If you are using it with heavy body armor, helmet gas mask etc the height isn't bad. Easy to get behind. I like the posisiton of the RMR on the TA02 LED ACOG much better though, its forward placement doesn't bump your hat/helmey when prone behind the ACOG.

All that said, the 45 offset is a much better solution, as the RDS will have near the same offset as the ACOG. But, if you have other stuff hanging off of the front of your rifle, offsets may not be workable.

I like piggy back vs offset cause I shoot both left and right so I prefer a ambi setup.

With that said it takes a lot of practice to get good with it. Know your limits.

I like the rmr on top. People that say its too high must forget that the acog originally mounted on top of a carry handle. It really doesnt make you have to do a chin weld, you just look up, it's not like when you're using an acog your eye is touching the optic. Rmr on top is much more natural to use than having to shoot your rifle sideways with an offset rmr.
