I am thinking about buying an ACOG, though I am not sure which model. Has anyone regretted buying an ACOG? If so, why? |
|
I just purchased a TA11 with the "Donut of Death" reticle for my 20" A2 Bushie---Un-friggin'-believable!!! It makes it very easy to shoot out to 300yrds (my local range's max distance) with no problem and no "Kentuky Windage" (if there's no wind blowing). No regrets, except that I didn't get one a few years ago before prices went up...... |
|
What is it going on and going to be used for? FWIW I got rid of my Comp ML2 to fund my TA11E. It was a great deal for me for two reasons...it was going on an AR10 and most of my shooting is 50+ yards. If I were looking at a cqb specific rifle, I'd say the AImpoint is still king. |
Funny, I had the exact same situation as you and took the same course of action ('cept I kept my ML2). Great minds think alike!! I can't wait until my TA11E arrives on monday. |
I'm with you on this! www.csgunworks.com [email protected] Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks for AR15 Board Mike at CS Gunworks is... |
| Only regret I have is just putting one up for sale about 3 minutes ago!!! I swore never to sell one, but I need the money for another project. I still have 4 of them (5 if this one never sells) and they are all excellent! |

I'm replacing a Reflex II on my Bushmaster carbine. I am going to use it for plinking. I know that a could buy a very good traditional scope for half the price of an ACOG. But I tried an ACOG at the range a few years ago and was very impressed. I'm trying to make sure that there are no cons to the scope that become apparent only after you've owned one for a while before I spend a $1,000. |

don't regret it at all and hope to have many more in the future (i've owned 4, currently have 2...and one is for sale). i regret having to sell the brand new TA31F-RCOA4 i JUST got but it arrived way ahead of schedule and the boss will kill me if it don't get out of the house ASAP! |
I was never fully satisfied with my TA01-NSN. The scope was excellent, just not the best ACOG choice for the type of shooting I do. I didn't regret it, since they hold their value and I didn't lose money selling it used. My advice is to actually try as many different models as you can (bac/non-bac, different reticles, different magnification, amber vs red, etc.) before plunking down the cash. Simply looking through one in a gun shop isn't enough- Get out there and shoot in day, dusk, night. See what works for you (not what works for others here, and not what works for the military). |

I think the scopes are very nice and there are basically nothing else like them, so if you want something like it you don't have much of a choice. However, I believe the prices are very inflated. I own one, but would not buy another unless I got a really good deal. |

TA 31 My regrets? 1. That I don't have two more 2. That I did not get two more when they were still down in the $675.00 price range 3. Not really a regret just more of a wish. I wish the TA 31 was a 1-4 power scope Other than those NO regrets here. IPSC_GUY SIERRA II ALPHA |

Actually, I don't like them very much, I've owned two and sold both of them, glad they're gone. My first ACOG was a TA-01, which had too little eye relief, even for an AR-15. Plus the blurry right side of the reticle just bothered me, but maybe that's just me. After I sold it, I upgraded to a TA-11F. The eye relief of the TA-11 series was a welcome change, but the TA-11's have their own problems. The windage and elevation adjustments sucked, and several clicks to each resulted in no change to POI. Furthermore, just pushing on the adjustment dials you could see the reticle moving all over the place. The accuracy of my TA-11 sucked, most likely because the reticle drifted around from the recoil of the rifle. BTW, if you have a problem with a trijicon product, be prepared TO WAIT A LOOOONG TIME, their customer service sucks. Also, the resolution of the TA-11 was actually better at the edge of the FOV than the center. Don't believe me, try this out the next time you look at a TA-11. Put the reticle on some fine pattern, like pine needles, and move the pattern from the edge of the image to the center, you will see the image get less focused at the center. That's a sign of poor optical design. Oh yeah, and the red glow of the reticle makes precision shooting difficult during the day unless you adjust to cover over the fiber optic, which I thought was a PITA. Lastly, fixed power doesn't do it for me. I have since upgraded to the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24, and wow what a difference. Nice variable magnification range, great range finding reticle, adjustable illumination, superior optics, superior windage/elevation adjustments, more accurate (no drifting reticle), adustable reticle focus, more than enough eye relief (some would say too much, but that's what LaRue is for). Also, I like being able to use a real set of flip open lens covers, instead of the crap you're forced to use with the ACOG's stangely shaped objective housing. Oh, and BTW, if you like the fast shooting BAC of the ACOG, get yourself an EOtech, which is much better suited to the task. as far as I'm concerned, the only advantages of the ACOG are tritium back-up illumination and compact size. I don't miss either of them however. |

Have a TA31F and the eye relief is too short. Due to a mixture of factors, my carbine recoils quite a bit for a .233. Shooting from kneeling, sitting, or prone causes the optic to tap my glasses. From a offhand stance, the eye relief isn't so much of an issue. The fiber optic illumination is too bright under sunlight for precision shooting and makes the optic fuzzy. However, the brightness does help when using it like a red dot. Haven't really had the chance to compare the quality of glass to that of other scopes I have, but it seems ok. I still need to put more time behind it before I can really decide if it was a worthwhile buy. I think though, it should work good enough. |
Deep down I fear this to be true. They are very sweet BUT, even though I really really want an ACOG NSN for my 16"HB, due to the types of shooting I do (varmint/target/plinker) the nightforce is a better option. I am not engaging a large (man sized) enemy. My 6" tall enemy sits upright on a mounts of dirt at distances for as far as I can see. I will finish this "squirrel gun" with a BIG vari power and build a superlight/acog SHTF gun next. I hereby split my nearly complete ACOG fund between a suppressor, bipod, and a scope as long as the barrel will hold ![]() |
Somewhat similiar results. I didn't like the donut at all. Too imprecise for longer range. BAC was too slow for close range v. the Eotech. With a Chevron, it would have been much better. But, the ACOG I had would not hold zero. And the adjustment knobs got chewed up very easily and looked like shit pretty quick. I didn't abuse them, they just were made of crappy material. And I didn't like that I couldn't get scope covers. The glass almost got broken when a friends barrel nearly slammed into the front glass while loading the rifles into a truck--sure, a case would have been better, but a cover would have prevented this too. I really liked the glass resolution, and the reticle/fibre optic combination was great and always at the right intensity. But I sold it. I will probably get the Nightforce 2.5X10 too. |
