What is the difference in both eyes open aiming between an ACOG and a regular old straight 4X power scope?

Does the ACOG have something special to aid in both eyes open shooting?

The IOR 4x are net scopes.  The have exposed turrets that goes out to 800yds, FOV is not as good as the ACOGS, and made of steel.

The ACOGS are made of cast aluminum, Tritium for illumination most of there models have fiber-optic daytime illumination, and retiles calibrated for the 223 or 308.

Straight 4X scopes have no BAC (Bindon Aiming Concept). Not all Acogs have BAC for that matter.

I think what hes asking about is why the ACOG has an advantage or what is the advantage that the ACOG offers. On the TA31 and TA11 series scopes they have daylight illumination using the Fiber otpics tube on top to illum the ret. red. This allows for use of the BAC as mentioned above.
Also no matter what way you cut it a red aiming point is going to translate to fatsre target acquisition or speed on traget down range. You simply can not get on target as fast with a standard ret. Also there are no Batteries to die in an ACOG.
hope that helps.

The ACOG is a jack of all trades and a master of none. It's no where near as easy to use up close as a 1X, and I find it harder to make precise long shots with an ACOG over a traditional magnified scope.

It's for that reason I think an illuminated 1-4X is the best option for a do all optic. I think Trijicon's best optic is the TR21, which is their 1.25-4X model. It's a lot cheaper than an ACOG too.

The illuminated larger recticle is what the ACOG has that aids in using the Bindon system.
