| Well I am picking up a ACOG for my upcoming deployment and am wondering which of these three models I should get. Can't decide between the TA01NSN, TA31 and the TA01F. I've had experience with both the TA31F and the TA01NSN but the TA31 also got me interested. I like the BUIS on the TA01NSN but don't like the fact that it does not have BAC, like the TA31F as it has BAC but I don't always like it for CQC. What would be the best model? Also how do you zero the TA31 at 25m with the donut? Would you zero right at the 300m line and use the bottom of the donut for 200 and top for 100? |

The BUIS on the NSN is near worthless crap. Don't base any part of your decision on that "feature". A lot of guys are running 31F's and RCO's out here including me. Everyone seems to love them. I'm pretty much a staff weenie on this tour so its not like I'm shooting it much, but its very nice to have. Just learn whether you can use BAC before you commit it as your only optic. Not all eyeballs are compatible and over here is not the place to learn your POA/POI is off by 10 feet. Train hard while you can! |
| Since the 31F is what's issued, I've had the chance to play around with them. I like them a lot, however, make sure you're going to get issued an M4 or A4 before you shell out for one. If you're worried about a CQC setup, you may wanr to rethink the ACOG, and go with one of the red dots. Anyhow, you might get issued one, so I would personally wait until you know what you're getting before sheling out for your own. |
Zero using the 400m line if you're using a 20" barrel. With an M4 you can go either way, I'd tend to use the 400m line based on my experiences YMMV. |
| I know that I am being sent over as a rifleman in the SDM role. M4 will be my primary weapon. I was issued one, it broke 2 months ago and replaced with a Eotech, was told that no replacement was expected and not to hold my breath on it. I have used both the Eotech and ACOG (TA31F and TAO1NSN) for CQC and CQM, have not noticed any effect on my accuracy and am able to hit targets while moving. From my WPN's SQD experience IMO the Eotech is not up to snuff for those longer ranges. How do you read the donut for ranges? |
