If I want a low magnification ACOG, no batteries, for general purpose defense, which model do I want?  I already have a carbine with an EOTech for close work.  I have not decided on the rifle to put it on which may cost less.

I personally prefer the 31 series.  With a bright red chevron or donut, its quick and accurate enough for combat.  I own a TA31 on my 20 inch barreled rifle, and a TA31F on my 10.5 inch carbine.  I used to have an TA01NSN, but it wasn't to my liking.  The black crosshair would disappear on black bullseyes, and the illumination was so weak that I never noticed it when I was using it.

That doesn't exactly narrow the field...

You really do need to find a shop that has some in stock so you can get a feel for them.  The differences in magnification, reticles, eye relief and weight are a little subtle but can make a large difference in how well it suits your particular needs.

And don't forget to look at the compact models as well.

I like the eye relief of the TA11.
