When mounting it, did any of you bother to set the torque on the two screws precisely to match each other, or was it a case of "plenty tight so it won't come unscrewed" and didn't worry about it?

I just put a drop of Loctite on each screw and tighten them down. Never had one come lose yet.

I was thinking more in terms of needing equal torque on both screws to ensure accuracy.  Heat expansion of the mount being even as the upper receiver heats under fire, that sort of thing.  I'm wondering if it even matters.  I tightened mine down with a screw driver bit to "tighter than piss" and I'm certain it will never come loose.  I'm just wondering if I should've precisely matched torque for each screw.

What ammunition/range are you shooting that it's going to matter with an ACOG?

There's no reason to tighten the ever loving crap out of the TA51 mount, though I reckon it can't hurt unless you way over torque it.

Might there be some hypothetical difference there?  Perhaps, is it going to enough to make a difference with factory ammunition, doing the kind of shooting that an ACOG is designed for, at the realistic engagement ranges of an ACOG?  I would say not the least bit.

On my ACOG, I tighten the screws finger tight, then use a quarter to turn them another quarter rotation, then take a paint pen and mark the mount and the screw and call it a day.  Never had a problem with the optic coming loose as long as it stays indexed.

+1 and use a LaRue mount

ACOGs are not target scopes.  You are way overthinking this.  They are designed to help shoot men, not individual buttons on his shirt.
