Looking at a TA31 or 31A for carry handle mount.  Have seen some posting on the donut recicle of the 31, but nothing on the triangle of the 31A.  Any significant advantage/disadvantage of one over the other, or is it just a matter of personal preference.

I believe it is LARGELY a matter of personal prefference. Having said that, I preffer either the TA31 (donut) or the TA31F (chevron). Here's why;

The Chevron will be the easiest reticle to use for precision. Because it is finer than the donut or triangle, it will be harder to be as fast with it. Notice I say that it is easier to be accurate, and harder to be quick. That does not mean you can not be quick or the others arent accurate.

The donut will be as fast as the triangle, but because it is hollow, it will not cover up your target as much. I like that better than the triangle which can obscure a fair amount of the target.

In the end, none of the choices are bad. But I think the Chevron fills the needs of those shooters who may do a lot of distance type shooting and a little CQB. The donut fills the needs of those who do a lot of CQB and a little distance shooting. I myself just dont see where the triangle fits in if given the option of all three.

OTOH, the triangle is my favorite reticle on the Reflex and Comp ACOGs... go figure!

Not to deter you from acquiring full-sized ACOGs, but if you intend to use it on your carry handle, I recommend you to have a serious look at Compact ACOGs. Although full sized ACOGs provide more magnification and combat-proven ruggedness, I seems they are a bit high for good cheek wild.

I know I will mount 3x one on mine when I get the cash.
