Hi guys.  I have an older Aimpoint CompM mounted on a flat top SBR with a World Wide Ordnance #214 mount.  I sighted it in at 50 yards from a bench and using a rest.  When I used the rest, the dot is slighty low in the lense and shots are on target.  When I shoulder the weapon and do not use the rest, my head is slightly elevated and the dot is centered more in the tube.  This is when I run into trouble.  From the shoulder, my shot are then low and NOT on the previously zeroed location.  I then re-zeroed the sight to hit from the shoulder.

I am not jerking the weapon down while shooting from the shoulder, so why are my shots low?  Am I doing something wrong are is there a problem with my old Aimpoint?  Someone once told me that a rifle will zero differently from the bench than from the shoulder.  Is this true?  Thanks in advance.

How much of a change is it?  If the barrel is not freefloated and you have a sandbag supporting the front then the point of impact can change slightly but it shouldn't change very much at only 50 yards.

Its off about 5 inches at 50 yards. I is not FF.  It has a stock handguard.

I think you might b experiencing some paralax problems

you may not b getting your eye in the same place bhind the optic when shooting off the rest as with standing. This will cause the point of aim to shift. there is no fix for this other than to center your eye weather standing or bench shooting.

most newer quality optics have corrected for this. yours may b old enough not to.

While the Aimpoint does suffer some minor parallax problems under 50 yrds, look in FM3-22.9, it sounds like something else might be influencing your anomolies. Are you using your irons in conjuction with cowitnessing the dot?

Yes, I had them cowitnessed from the rest.  Since I rezeroed from the shoulder, the dot is now just below the top of the front sight blade and actually on the blade.  The top of the dot is just about level with the top of the front sight blade.
