if a person put a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14X40 scope on a DPMS AP4 rifle, removable carry handle, but standard non removable front sight

is the sight going to be a problem with the scope behind it ??????? for 100,200, 300-400 yard shots ?

does a person need high rings or a riser for this setup ?

thanks

Crazy.  That is the exact setup that I have; I haven't been on this forum much at all for a good while.  I have mine on a LaRue QD mount - just the standard heighth.  When I first got it, I had to look through it several times to understand why I can't see the front sight in the sight picture.  It is an optical illusion.  Seems like it would be an issue, but it's not.

can a person take the front sight off and replace it with a flat top gas block, by himself without any special tools / or problems ?

You could do that but it wont be in the way of the scope.  You will not see that front sight.  I had a VX2 4-12x40 in a LaRue mount and never had a problem on my AP4.

im having a tough time deciding between the RRA and the DPMS, the RRA is about 300 + tax more than the DPMS but the RRA is built how i like it.... though the DPMS should be plenty accurate, i wish it had the little shell deflector block on the right side where the forward assist should be SINCE I SHOOT LEFT HANDED or will this not be a problem ????

now, if i get the one with the round tube front handguard, how tough is that to change out to a quad rail, can that be done on your own ?? ive read of guys sending them to DPMS to have that done.

My 3x9 does not show up. So I would guess no you should be ok. I use high rings and they seem to give me a good cheek weld.

ive got a millet dms-1 on my LR308C, mounted with a larue lt-104.

at 1 power, you see the fsb, obviously.   as you go past 2x, the fsb becomes blurry and moves towards the bottom of the sight picture, well out of the way.   by the time you get to 3x, its not noticable.
