I know it's been covered before but a quick search came up with nothing.
I just got back from a disappointing day at the range with my AR15. I only put 160 rounds through it and it resulted in 4-5 failures to extract. I came home and stripped the rifle down and upon inspection of the extractor I found that it had very little spring pressure behind it. I took the rifle over to my neighbor that is more familiar with ARs and he came to the same conclusion. Now I'm searching around for extractor upgrades and I see multiple places that have extractor kits that include the spring, plunger and a normal o-ring. The other option I am familiar with is the d-ring or D-fender but it is only the D shaped o-ring itself. Should I get the D-fender and use it with the factory spring and plunger or should I get the whole kit that includes the spring, plunger and standard o-ring?? Is there any advantage to the D shape of the D-fender??? D. |

I use the Colt Heavy duty extractor spring and I dont use those rubber donuts. MY DD upper came with a Heavy Spring only with black insert.
