I have a spare handguard that I intend to use for SBR build. The bottom of the handguard has a picatinny rail running the full length. I will probably cut back the rail using a grinder with a cut off wheel and a Dremel tool to shape things up. Any advice or recomeendations

Which hand guard is it you have?  Something as simple as adding on some rail covers can change the look and feel.  Look into the Daniel Defense rail covers they look and feel nice.  So do the simple ladder covers like from ergo or magpul.  Then again just sell it and get something like the Odin Works KeyMod.  Myself I use the Head Down KeyMod and love it, so if you grind it look at how the Head Down is with only the top rail, and short pieces on the barrel end of the hand guard for pic rails.
