I built an AR15 about two years ago. I built it in 5.56 and really enjoyed the build. I enjoyed it so much that I built a 300 Black Out upper for it. I frequently switch them out and enjoy shooting my rifle as a 22 cal and as a 30 cal. I think I like the 300 BO better than the 5.56.
Here's the question, and I hope I don't sound stupid. My friend wants me to build him an AR15. My concern is that he currently owns a 7.62 x 39 mm AK47. He wants an AK47 built on an AR platform. OK I get that and I've seen the parts so I know its possible. The kicker is that he wants to use his AK47 mags in his new AR15 or AR47 or what ever you'd call it. I called a well known parts house and they tell me this is impossible. I can buy a rifle that is an AK47 built on an AR15 platform easily enough, but I cant build a rifle on the AR15 Platform that will accept the AK47 mags. A self build would have to use AR15 style mags, something to do with the angle of the AR15 magwell? My biggest problem is that I don't know much about AK47's, and I'm not familiar with the lingo. Frankly I never really liked them that much, but I have shot a few and found them comparable to the 300 BO, except for accuracy. Then again maybe it was just my shooting. My intention is not to step on any toes here with the accuracy statement, it's only a reflection of my experience. Impossible? Me I don't know so I'm here typing questions trying to get an answer. I appreciate that you replied. Maybe next time you can actually answer the questions. Other wise .... why bother?
It would be impossible for my friend to build the rifle and I'll not go into the reasons why. Sometimes there are situations that don't need to be shared and I treat these with caution and respect. |
