I was cleaning 2 AR's today and got the bolts and bolt carriers mixed-up. Both weapons have about 400 rds apiece thru them. Same BC and both bolts are marked CM and the wear is the same so as not to be able to tell them apart. Can I go ahead and put them back togeather and not worry about it or??? Next time I'll do one at a time. Thanks

At just 400 rnds I personally don't think it would be a problem.

I would check the headspace if possible.

Same maker on both, shouldnt matter.

@ 400 rds., the bolts aren't even broken in yet. You're fine. The AR platform was designed with parts interchangability in mind

Can't really check the head space right now as I'm in Washington state and all my AR tools are back home in Alaska. I do have some new bolts with me so I could change them out if need be. I would imagine that with only 400 rds on them that most likely they'd be GTG. Very little wear on the bolts or carriers at all. What the the heck -- I've got a 50% of being right.

Ahh but it does after a number of rounds. Well at least that is what everyone teaches/says. After they are worn intogether it is not recomended to change bolts amongst different Ar's.

If needed for SHTF, I would go for it.

I'd get a field gage on it and check them before hitting the range or casual shooting. Why take a chance? Besides field gages are cheap compared to a new rifle. BSW

I've put new bolts in AR's that had many thousands of rounds thru them and never had a problem as it more or less tightened up the headspace. More than likely with only 400 rds the bolts haven' broken in yet.
