This is a Colt upper, no forward assist and what looks like a bird cage F/H. Anyone have any idea how old this assy might be? Been a long time since I saw one w/o a F/A. Anything special I need to know when setting this up with a PB RRA lower?

If the front hole for the pivot pin is larger than the rear it's an SP1 upper. You'll need an adaptor pin for it to work with a RRA lower. No idea on how old it is.

It's either an SP1 upper, as noted above, or an Air Force surp M16 upper.  The key is the size of the front hinge pin hole.  If it is an SP1 upper, it can be used on a current type lower by installing an adapter piece that Bushmaster shows in their catalog.

There has been a bunch of Air Force surplus stuff out there lately, tho; so it might already have the right sized hole. Picked an upper up myself, awhile back

Re using it with a current lower, if it has the right size front hinge opening, just mount it.  If it has the larger, SP1 hole, get the adapter, install it, and then mount it

Note, however, if you install the thing before the ban expires in a few months, you'll have to remove the flash suppressor and permanently install a muzzle brake to be legal----or just wait until after the ban goes away to build it up

Yes, you should know that it would not be legal to mount it on a RRA lower since it's a preban upper with a bayonet lug, threaded barrel and flash suppressor.  You'll have to permanently remove those features or wait until September 14th to mount it.

Yes, I am waiting for the ASW to expire before assy. These came from Warner Robbins, GA., so I am guessing they are USAF surplus. They have the small pivot hole.

Thanks!
