Greetings,
Just joined the site although I have been stalking for quite a while. I have purchased several different AR's in the past and currently own a Rock River and a Ruger 556. I just started to build my first AR and I went with the AREA53 lower. I think it looks good and is made well. Having said that, I was just curious if any of y'all had an opinion on these lowers or have hear/read any reviews. The rifle is complete now with a Yankee Hill upper, Aero Precision 16" barrel, Mil Spec BCG and a 12" quad rail. The lower was put together with a Palmetto State LPK. The reason I ask about the lower is the bolt catch will not function properly. I thought at first that the mag was bad but its the same issue with all mags I have tried. The bolt will not lock back on an empty mag. I have to manually engage the bolt catch. The lower uses a set screw rather than a roll pin. When the screw is tightened all the way down, it is incredibly hard to engage the bolt catch. I backed it out half way and it's now easy to engage but as stated earlier, I have to do this manually. Just curious if anybody had the same problem when using set screws? I'm totally aware that it could have been an operator malfunction being that this was my first one. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Glad to be here. Thanks y'all. |
