| Anyone got any input pro/con on this hanguard? |

I decided on the arms SIR 50 system because of the following advantages it offered. 1. Completely rigid full length rail for installing optics, lasers, etc. 2. Completely free floats the barrel. 3. Excellent cooling, bested only by older larger model SIR 45. 4. Rails of different sizes can be added or removed as needed in the 3, 6 and 9'clock positions. 5. Very well balanced, the full rail design spreads the weight across the whole carbine so it feels lighter than it really is. 6. Bottom half of hand guard is polymer and can be removed to access the barrel for cleaning. 7. Bi-level feature allows for co-witnessed forward mounting of EOTech optics. 8. Integrates perfectly with the ARMS 40 BUIS. 9. Easy to install requires no special tools or rifle disassembly other than removing the hand guards. The cons are... 1. Receiver rail is raised, some people do not like this when mounting certain optics like ACOGS. The rail height is perfect if you will be using Aimpoint sights. 2. Lower handguard is a polymer/plastic material and does flex. 3. Limits the type of BUIS you can use. 4. The add on rail will stick out further than the KAC rails. This may not even be an issue with the slim line SIR models. 5. Looks, some people just do not like the unconventional look they give the AR. In my situation the SIR 50c has worked great and it does everything I need it to do. The bottom line is that you need to know what you want to do with your rifle and what accessories you will be mounting and then decide what rail system will work best for you. |

I have an EoTech sight and a #50c...If you plan to purchase an eotech sight, the SIR #50 is THE best way to go. Trust me and Yojimbo on this one. I can't think of any cons at the moment, but i'm sure there are a few, as with anything else. As for looks: it takes the cake in my opinion. There is nothing more beefier than an AR with an SIR. (and I meant the good beef. not the insane canadian shit [;)]) |
| Agree with the above comments regarding the #50c ARMS , it works outstanding w/Eotech is simple to install ,lightweight and all the guys at the range huddle up and whisper amongst themselves. Its very similar to showing up wherever with the best looking babe !!! The only con I have is with my M3 I found since I mount it on the right #2 rail side I have to shift my grip on my vg in order to activate the momentary switch . No big deal but its telling me to save my nickels for a Surefire Millinium just like YoJimbos', will this quest never end ? Besides a #50 SIR will prevent you from buying an Aimpoint and you ending up wishing you had bought an Eotech !! |
