| I would really appreciate the forums opinion on an AR 10 build. This will be my first AR and I would like to build it as a 308. I will later purchase a complete 223. My Budget will be around $1500, not including scope. My main use for the gun would be plinking and I would like to take it boar/deer hunting. What is the best gun (most reliable) that I could build for this price range. I would prefer 18"-20" barrel length. Any parts, brands, websites would be greatly appreciated.Thanks. |
| I would recommend you start with a 5.56 AR15 build first. The advantage is that the AR15 is very standard, and, for the most part, a part is a part (no pun intended). When you get to the 7.62 caliber, there is no standard. An AR10, is by definition, an Armalite gun. And, Armalite and KAC and DPMS do not mix. If you start with the 5.56 caliber, you will learn and make mistakes and learn again. If you really want a .308, you are better off buying your first. Lots of great guns out there. |

It takes me 20 to 30 minutes to assemble a stripped AR-15 lower, properly. I can assemble a stripped 308 lower inside of 10 minutes. Look at DPMS LR-308 stripped lowers and stay away from CMMG LPK's...the last few I tried all had a different part out of spec. Ahhh, Ok.
