New to the Ar 10 scene, I have a NIB AR 10A4BSF. I have read several different articles intoning that these rifles are seriously over gassed, resulting in being fairly hard on the brass itself, and throwing it some incredible distances, which I find to be a true statement. For a cheep reloader, that is something I would like to see abated.
Have seen some different mentions of drilling a factory GB, tapping and adding a 8X32 "screw" to limit the amount of gas available to cycle the action. One version suggest a small drill bit run from the bottom of the vertical vent through the top of the GB, then coming down from the top with the proper tap bit, then tapping that with an end tap and installing the "screw". Another puts the hole in from the side, ala the JP type GB. In this version I saw, the instructions were to place the new screw at the juncture of the flat and start of the swell that goes around the barrel, intersecting the horizontal run of the gas tube at it's lower 1/3. Has anybody done this mod, or seen one so affected? |
