Do we need to use stanard .308 dies or 7.62 if there is such a thing. Small Base dies or not? I was planning on using rcbs dies with a rockchucker press, but I havent' bought anything yet.  We got bunch of idiots here that are all telling me different things, dont' know which one of them knows what they are talking about if any of them do at all. LOL

Thanks for your help.

Get 308 Win small base dies.

Standard 308 works fine in the DPMS factory barrel, 308 palma and 95 308 palma chambers.
I do not know which chamber Armalite uses if it is a real AR10.
A way to check is mic the dia. of a shot case 1/4 " above the extractor then subtract .004-.006 that's the size you want the die to be a reliable shooter.

armalite has told me they cut the chamber with 7.62 cutters not .308.  That being said the books show the reloaded cartridge to be the same and I am getting a couple guys down here saying there is not difference, and a couple saying that there is.  I thought that the 7.62 was a slightly larger chamber to accomodate dirty conditions.  But if this is the case why would be use small base dies? wouldn't that make the rifle less accurate if we sized them smaller?

Theoretically yes but, there are bigger problems that affect accuracy in a AR. You need some(.004) clearance in a gas gun in order for it to feed reliably.
The bigger differance between the 308 and the 7.62 nato is the neck dia and throat length.
My shot cases are .470(95 308 Palma), my (308 RCBS)sized cases are .469.
This is very tight and if i was shooting dirty I may have problems. Notice my chambers are 308 Palma. If you check your fired cases I'll bet they're .472-.473. if they are just use a standard 308 win size die and you'll hit that .004 which is considered min clearance in a gas gun. If you have a match chamber then you may want sm. base dies to get the .004 clearance.
Walmart's easy, buy them, try them out, if it doesn't work clean them and take em back

ArmaLite uses a NATO chamber  but .308 dies work fine.  As noted, the difference is largely in the throat.

We make are chambers large enough that they'll work with about any good quality die.  No need to go with a smallish die except in some early rifles.
