I'm mounting a Leupold 40mm scope on an AR-10T. After looking at different mounting options (LaRue, ArmaLite, etc.), it occurred to me that I hadn't given any thought to the actual mounting height of the scope. I'm not using any BUIS, so they're not a consideration, but I would like a comfortable position. Any opinions of medium vs high mounts?

probably want something that will put you at approx the height of standard irons. i like the LaRue LT-104.  i think it's a hair high.  the armalite mount is a little lower.  i've used high rings, and found them a bit too low.  they were usable, but reqired a very tight cheek weld.  some folks may use mediums, but i don't know how you'd get your eye low enough without being very uncomfortable.  i prefer xtra high.

I've just gone through the same search for a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm on an AR-10.

I went with Badger Ordnance 306-79 extra high rings.  Marty informed me they are the exact height of the iron sights.  He also went over the reasons why they manufacture them like they do.

I had Leupold high rings and they were a tad bit low.
