The more important question is what stock do you plan on using?

probably a magpul ctr or str carbine stock . nothing crazy .

A standard buffer tube either milspec or commercial will work. The stock that you choose must match the buffer tube. You can tailor the recoil spring to whatever you want be it a standard spring or a flat wire spring.

I read forums where they mention the different weighted buffers. I wanted to go the  Spike's Carbine Buffer Assembly Kit.
. kit includes
Mil-Spec Buffer tube with dry film lube
• Latch plate
• Castle nut
•Mil-Spec 17-7 Stainless Buffer spring
• ST-T2 buffer
will this system work ?

Primarily, commercial tubes are made of cheaper aluminum, use cut threads instead of rolled threads, and are thicker, meaning mil-spec diameter stock bodies won't fit them.

Even receiver extensions which are advertised as "milspec" usually aren't, they're just milspec diameter, but still made of cheaper material and with cut threads.

There's no real functional difference, so if you buy the stock body and receiver extension as one unit, you won't need to worry about it.
