Several of the guns that I own were purchased because there was a big hoop-la stirred up by the anti-gun crowd. Well now they want to ban .50 Cal's and I'm once again thinking that if I don't get one now, I may never have the chance. If they keep this up, the gun grabbers are gonna bankrupt me long before they bankrupt the industry!

Has anyone owned or fired an Armalite AR-50? How do you like it? Do you recommend finding someplace to shoot one before buying one? If you own one, how often do you shoot it? How do the Armalites compare to the other .50 cal guns out there?

A place to shoot one has been the raeson I have not bought one.  I can't see spending $2800 to $3500 on the rifle, scope, mounts, etc only to have difficulty finding a SAFE, and I do mean SAFE place to shoot it.

When I was in the Army, I remember the .50 going all which way.  I have only seen two or three places safe to shoot a .50 but they are limited to 200 yards max, what fun is that, it's like shooting a 30.06 at 25 yards.

You can get alot of fun stuff for what a complete .50 package would cost.  Good luck.

I owned a L.A.R. Grizzly .50 match rifle.  Great rifle and accuracy for the money $2600.  I played with it for a few months.  It was very expensive to shoot since I had a match barrel and chamber (Not recommended for regular military ball cartridges).
As stated above, it is difficult to find a range of 800 to 2000 yards to shoot it.  My thought was it was a waste of the ammo to shoot at less than 800 yards.
I was smart and sold it to my brother-in-law so I could still shoot it.  I used the money and bought another AR-10.
If you are looking at long range, at a decent ammo cost, look at the AR-30 in .300 win mag, .338 Lapua, or the new AR-10(T) on .300 Remington short action Ultra Mag (RSUM).  The .300 RSUM is reasonably inexpensive to shoot (reloads of course) and it can reach 1200 yards accurately with a 190 gr. projectile.  I paid for one, and am just waiting for it....impatiently I might add.
