I am starting a project AR, I am buying a stripped reciever next week and will slowly piece it together with parts bought from my local FFL. They have all the parts in the shop needed to build a complet AR, but, they do not have any barrels.
I am wondering if there is a shortage on AR barrels, where can I buy a decent one from? all I want/need is a decent 16" barrel, maybe a heavy barrel, nothing fancy, the cheaper the better, so long as the barrel is chrome lined and 5.56mm I will take whatever I can find. Where would be a good place to order one from, the cheapest I have seen was here on the EE, and thats around $250, I am thinking, for another $200, I can just buy a used complete upper. I want to keep track of how much I put into the rifle, the goal is to try and build an AR and keep the total cost under $800. I do not know if that is even possible. I hope I can find a used barrel on the EE to try and keep costs down, the few I saw on the ee, they sold QUICK! |

Check JSESurplus and Rguns. They usually have them in stock. JSE has a bunch of YHM barrels in stock. My experience has been that it's A LOT better, time-wise, to order from small shops and distributors rather than directly from the manufacturers because it seems that they fulfill distributors' orders first.

I know you'd like to try to keep costs down, but bear in mind that for your extra money you'll also get a magazine or two and a full manufacturer's warranty. With that said I have seen 16" barrels around in the $220 range recently...you've just got to keep your eyes open. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
