Ok new to the build and all seemed to go well but one issue. When I drop the Bcg in it was real tight. I took it out and lubed it up real well. Put it back in still tight but was able to work it some and it started to loosen up. It loosened up and finally went fully into battery. I pulled the charging handle to extract the Bcg it came out about 1/2" and bound up.  I used my finger to pull the Bcg back say an inch and then I could use the charging handled to pull it the rest of the way out. I have a charging handle from my Bushmaster dropped it in and it did not bind up. I micd the charging handle, new one, and it is actually 1.5mm shorter than the bush handle. I'm thinking that new handle must be binding up on the gas tube when it comes out? Am I missing something? I presume once this issue is solved that everything will loosen up after a breaking period. Details below

Anderson upper and lower
Spikes tactical phosphated Bcg
CMMG 16" barrel
Charging handle is a I guess you'd say a stock 7076 single piece handle. It's laser engraved with a local dealers business name.

So I'm perplexed and aggravated. Thanks for any ideas you all might have.

The first thing that I would check is the gas tube alignment. Any premature marks on the gas key or the end of the tube? Separate the upper and visually check for fitment issues when installing the bcg and moving back and forth.

I checked the key and I didn't see any marks. One thing I did notice on the new handle the tip that grabs the front of the Bcg just barely does grab it whereas the old Bushmaster extends all the way to the bolt carrier. If that new handle even slightly moves upward it loses contact with the Bc and contacts the cam pin. When I pull the charging handle back it may be doing just that and binding up against the receiver housing. I would think they should be spec'd out the same but they are not. Shouldn't they all be the same dimensions, especially at that spot?

Hi man from what you say its sounds to me like you got it the charge handle's prob out of spec .

I'd check if the bcg moves freely with out the charge handle in the upper ,

then leave the bcg out and just try the charge handle see if there's any binding?

my mil spec charge handle is .399~.403 wide  and the slot where it go's is .414 (the spec is .415 +-.005

the two nub's on the charge handle on mine is .488 wide and the spec on the groove it rides in is .522

the lip in the front you spoke of that grabs the bcg on mine is .590 tall don't know what spec is on that?

i just had the opposite problem with a upper it was machined over size in that spot S.B. .415 wide mine was .455

and the bcg / gas key rocked side to side so much the gas tube could not be lined up i got it from joebobs

they sent me a RMA and paid the shipping I'm sure once they see it they will replace it that's the plan anyway

i just have to wait and see but joebobs did not give me any trouble and so far there customer service has been great

Hope it helps.

If you swapped the charging handle and the symptom went away, I think you've found the problem.  I think I spent $15 or so on an Anderson ch.  Cheap and easy to fix problem.

Thanks I'm going to check your specs against this one. The Bcg is tight but seems to be loosening up I lubed it up real well. Is it normal for the to be a little snug so to speak at first?

Appreciate all the information!

Try dropping in the carrier without the bolt.

Make sure bolt and rings have lube on them. Clean interior of carrier to assure that bolt can move freely.
