Hopefully someone can help me. I built an AR 15. Everything works great except when I have the bolt locked to the rear, it is really hard to put it on safe. What could be the problem?  I have checked the selector pin and changed the selector switch but still has same issue. Please help.

The hammer is pushed further down when the bolt is on top of it.  It's probably pushing the trigger into the safety causing some extra friction.  IOW, your lower, bolt carrier, hammer, or trigger are either slightly out of spec or you're just suffering from tolerance stacking.

Thank you for the info. I thought maybe I would have to shave off the point on the detent pin. It works fine when the bolt is closed but an issue when the bolt is locked to the rear.

Leave the detent alone.  Shave a few thousandths off the top part of the hammer.  Remove upper, then cock the hammer.  Next run a stone across the highest part of the hammer, holding the stone parallel with the top of the lower.  Take off .003-.005 inch and that will ease the binding.

This, you should be able to see where the hammer is rubbing.

My vote before stoning/filing anything, determine where the binding is talking place to begin with.

Could be that the tail of the hammer is too long to cause wedging,
Could be that the top area above the hammer sear is too long and binding on the top of the front of the trigger.
Could be that the hammer tail is binding up on the hook of the disco, instead of coming down on top of the tail of the disco instead.

Out of the three, the tail of the hammer is about all that you can rework safely to shorten, while in the case of the area above the hammer sear, if this is out of spec, then best to just have the hammer replaced.
