I have the Primary Weapons System FSC556 compensator on my AR.  However, the compensator is designed to vent on the side. When tightened all the way, the vents are facing up and down.

I'm told that I have to peel away a layer of the washer and then retighten it, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Can anyone give me a hand? Thanks, guys!

That sounds correct for a peel washer.  Make sure that is the type you have first.  If on the other hand you have a crush washer, which is concave on one side and convex on the other, all you need to do is tighten it and back it off, then retighten until it times correctly.  You just don't want to exceed 18 ft/lbs of torque at a time on the comp while you are adjusting it.

Peel washers I'm not as familiar with.  I believe they are heated and a layer is removed.  Someone here will know for sure.

Do you have peel washers on it now?  They're paper thin washers, you can either add or remove the number of washers until the ports are facing the right way.

I like crush washers better, I've had brakes come loose when peel washers are used.  A2 or A1 flash suppressors are fine, but for some reason, my brakes do not like them.

The pics on their site show just a washer, it doesn't look like a stack of peel washers, maybe this is where the confusion comes from, there's no way to "peel away" that solid washer

I believe it's a peel washer, but I honestly don't know for sure. It's the only thing that came with the compensator, and it just appears to be a regular washer to me.

What type of heat? Will a regular lighter suffice?
