Im new here, but not new to the platform and was hoping I could get a couple tips and pointers from those of you in the know...
I have a 16inch m4 barrel, with standard carbine length HGs, I was interested in getting rid of the front sight post, going with a DD or Larue FF rail system, hopefully a 12inch, and a vortex flashhider.. Can anyone point me to a good gasblock, and any advice where to start? It would be hidden under the rail, Is this possible? I really have become taken with the look of a friends AR at the last match I shot, and he has this set up... Any advice, tips or links would be great, thanks in advance.. |

having just done this myself (DD 12.0 lite on 16"bbl) i threw in the DD gas block when i placed the order. turned out to be good thing because the DD block is the exact same shape as the opening in the rear of the
lite rail, made installation a snap. now, i am not saying it can not be done with any other gas block. |

Thanks! You wouldnt happen to have any pics would you? Did you do the work or have someone do it for you? I want to use ar15 barrels again as they have done alot for me over the years, just kinda shopping around at this point... Is there a difference in the lite and the standard 12 inch rail other than weight? |

i do my own work. i chose the DD lite because of the way it mounts to the upper. as far as quality goes, any rail by larue or DD is going to be a good choice. it was literally a coin flip that put the DD rail over the larue for me this last time. my next build will use a larue just to bring balance to the universe you can find the DD gas block here rainier arms at the bottom of the page. the lite rail is a few pages in. good people that i have done good business with many times. hell, almost everything on this build came from rainier.
i'm no stickman, but i tried to show how it looks under there. |
| 10-20 mins with a dremmel and you can hack your existing front sight block down to fit under the rail, you don't even have to remove it from the barrel as long as you are careful. Since it is already there, you know it works, is lined up with the gas port, and staked where it needs to be, why spend the cash on a new one that is going to be hidden anyway? |
