I,m having trouble determining the depth to machine the magazine release button.  I'm following Ray-Vin's website instructions but can't quite understand what he means in explaining how deep to seat the button. Also looked at the on-line machine drawings but can't see any dimension on depth.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Neal

I put them in to where the bolt part of the catch just passes the top of the button release.  I've heard others call installing the screw/bolt "proud" of the button if you get my drift.

Just take a pencil eraser, jam it on the mag release, and at the same time pull the mag catch from the other side and give it a whirl.  Never had a problem with magazines, feeding etc.  Unless my magazine lips were screwed up.

from the ar15 blueprint hosted here on arfcom: lowerBlueprint.pdf

from the main view in the center & view CC located in the lower left corner:

The oval button slot to a depth of 0.326 plus or minus 0.010
The 0.312 diameter hole to a depth of 0.576 plus or minus 0.010
The 0.204 hole all the way through

Ray-Vin's directions are based on measuring your forging and doing the calculations using actual values, but can be a little confusing.
