OK, I have a shorty POF upper which runs great on the 16 for long strings of full auto.
I'd like to build a quality upper SBR for interior SHTF capability. Thinking LaRue or Vltor upper - trying to pair the look to either the groovy Seekins lower or a POF "mil-spec". What are the piston retrofit kits available? What are the pluses and minuses of each? I am looking for a quality build. Thanks,. |

I'd just buy a LWRC shorty upper, and be done in one buy.
I have a LWRC in 6.8, 16", and think it's about the best rifle I've ever handled, save perhapse my FAL. Shorty uppers are pretty widely availible, and thier piston system seems rock solid to me so far. Plus they have a quick detatchable top rail over the handguard, so you can take the piston out for cleaning. An add on piston system may have issues about which hanguards work with them (I know early systems like the Bushmaster needed a large OD handguard). Plus, even if you get one that fits in a regular OD hanguard, you won't have a way to get to the piston for cleaning or maintenance unless you either take the whole hanguard off (diffiuclt if its FF), or get the same hanguard as LWRC uses. |
