This is probably gonna sound dumb, but I need a sling for my LMT Defender (VLTOR stock). The only options I can find are the kind where you replace a ring where the stock screws into the receiver and the sling clips to that metal ring. I have seen pics of slings that go through the slit near the butt of the stock. Also, my front swivel is covered up by the handguard so I was hoping to just try a single point sling that lets the rifle hang low center. Do slings that go through the slits in the stock just use that one point?
Any sling advice would be appreciated. I have some tactical training videos with shooting exercises I'd like to start doing. I put together a molle belt with some AR mag pouches and a thigh rig for the M&P. |

If you go to Brownells and look up "sling" in the keyword search it will give you all kinds of adapters and on the 2nd page you will start to see some actual slings. About half way down on the 2nd page there is a sling called the CQB or Close Quarters Combat sling. That is the sling I use now and used in Iraq and it comes with a couple of different pieces to fit your rifles stock type. I believe this sling will fit your AR. You may want to look into that and see what you think.

| Don't be surprised if you get hit in the family jewels with that set up if you actually use it in a real situation or some training classes where transitions and movement are used. I like a 2 point tactical sling, namely the VTAC from Viking Tactics. I also have the Vickers Blue Force sling, but prefer the VTAC. Some like the single points, I am with Larry Vickers and Kyle Lamb on their use though. They look "spiffy" but I pretty much abhor them. They offer no realistic advantage and create some horrendous problems in real use. |

I had absolutely no problems with it in Iraq, nor did any of my buddies. 95% of the time over there you aren't letting the weapon just hang to give it a chance to hit you, instead your holding the weapon at the ready unless you were in a safe area and then you probably won't be walking around with your rifle anyways. I do however see what your saying and how it could present a rather uncomfortable love tap! If it ever did though with all of the body armor you have on you wouldn't notice it at all. I have it on my AR right now and haven't noticed anything but then again I'm just over 6' so that may have something to do with it.

The easiest way is to just mount a two point sling like jcrowl's carbine, get a front side sling barrel mount from Colt, Stag, RRA, etc., and either mount the back end of the sling directly on the stock or use a QD sling swivel.
A Universal Wire Loop (UWL) by Blue Force Gear could also be used instead of a front side sling mount if you don't prefer a side mount. BFG UWL - thread link Here's the instruction link for the Vickers sling but any brand two point slings could be mounted the same way. Installation Instructions for Vickers Sling - link (pdf file) You could also consider a convertible sling from single point to two point like the Magpul MS2 Multi-Mission Sling and ASAP ambidextrous sling attachment point, also Gear Sector GS-2P using a receiver end plate HK sling mount. The two point slings that I have are Vickers, Viking Tactics-LaRue, and Gear Sector GS-2P all are great but each have a good strong feature for how you use your carbine. A cheaper (but IMO, equally good) 2-point sling as an alternative to the Vickers is the Spec-Ops patrol sling. I love mine.

| Ducky is right in that if you are in a MILITARY patrol situation, you don't just allow the weapon to hang and dangle. So, I guess, given that, depending on YOUR particular situation, the single point MAY be ok. I know that in my situation, I am subject to have to sling it across my back, or in low position and have to tighten it down to where it will not move around and beat me up or get in the way to climb over an obstacle or have my hands free. The Vickers and the VTAC both allow me to do that, the VTAC makes it easier. |
